Small businesses tend to have a network where all pc’s are known as ‘peer to peer’. This in many cases is satisfactory and allows companies to continue to use the peer to peer system, however for example if the user, Fred, uses Fred’s pc and logs in as Fred, he only sees the mailbox for Fred, as it is probably going to be a Pop 3 mailbox dedicated to Fred’s machine and not the user.

However, with a domain based network the mailbox becomes accessible by that user on any of the pc’s within the domain network providing all is configured correctly. There are many advantages with a domain centralised resource network over peer to peer. The security is also a lot stronger as the domain single sign-on per user system will be in place.
